Inseminating a bitch is a surgical procedure conducted under general anaesthesia. The bitch needs very close monitoring and several blood tests to determine the appropriate time of insemination. Macquarie Artificial Breeders along with Dubbo Veterinary Hospital have had great success with insemination of many breeds including Bullmastiff, Bull Terrier, Dogue de Bordeaux, Wheaton Terrier and Kelpie to name a few.
Fresh, chilled or frozen semen may be used for AI which will allow the use of dogs from interstate, internationally or a dog that is deceased.
